PROGRAM ACTIVITIES (Required)

* Orientation— HSHPS and JDC staff will provide information on the program, benefits, and obligations. The session will be for 1-2 days and will be the first gathering of all participants, mentors, and program administrators.

* Research Project — Trainees will be expected to assist his/her mentor on a Hispanic health related project.

* Daily Conferences/Discussion Panels - Trainees will be expected to attend daily conferences and discussions on diabetic and non-diabetic research topics.

* Institution-Sponsored Activities – Trainees will observe daily appointments, routine research techniques, attend daily appointment visits sessions and various conferences at the JDC and affiliated Hospitals; and assist on community outreach events. Trainees will also have the opportunity to participate in various networking events with doctors, scientists and researchers, policy and program development meetings, and staff meetings.

* Milestone Completion Summary Chart – Trainees will be required to maintain a summary of their progress outlining milestones, obstacles, adjustments, etc. during the program.

* Reaction Paper —Trainees will be required to submit an analytical and detailed synopsis of their experiences at the end of the program.

* Presentation of Findings — Trainees will be required to present their findings and key results of their project, and an overview of their experiences at the end of the program.
