How long are the
HSHPS Student Training Programs?
The HSHPS Student Internship Program at CDC offices and the HSHPS U.S.-Mexico Border Student Internship Program are both 9 weeks. The HSHPS Student Fellowship Program is 6 months long. The HSHPS/JDC Latino Diabetes Visitor Program is 8 weeks.
How many candidates are
selected to participate in the program?
The number of candidates per program year varies, based on the number of mentors and projects available. The
program has grown significantly since its creation in 2002. The Class of 2005 was 24.
Are non-Hispanic
students eligible to apply for the HSHPS/CDC
Student Training Programs?
Yes. While this program is targeted at Hispanic
students, non-Hispanic students who have an
interest in Hispanic health care issues are also
encouraged to apply.
How much is the student
stipend?
The amount of the stipend is based on the
experience level of the participant and varies
slightly from year to year.
What are the dates of
the programs?
The dates of the programs vary from year to year; they are based on the
academic calendars of the program participants. The dates for the 2006 10-week programs will be from June 2006 –
August, 2006. The Fellowship program will run from June, 2006 - November 2006.
